Why is it important: Maurice Broomfield chose Emsworth to retire.

Maurice Broomfield was a ground-breaking industrial photographer, who produced iconic pictures of British Industry. His pictures were meticulously composed, dramatically lit, and taken with the love and care of someone who had grown up around industry. He made innovative use of light and would often go to great lengths to photograph his subjects.

Maurice’s photography and artistry celebrated the lives of working people, he greatly respected their skill and ingenuity, often in the face of very difficult working environments.

In his retirement, Maurice came to live in Emsworth. He took this collection of photographs showing Emsworth at work in the mid-1990s, underlining the respect he had always shown for working people.
