No 9. PG Wodehouse letters to Lillian Barnett
Date: 1914-1973
Why is it important: P. G. Wodehouse conducted a 60-year correspondence with his former housekeeper.
Lillian Barnet, née Hill, was housekeeper to writer PG Wodehouse or Plum as he was known, who lived in Emsworth from 1904 to 1914. Lilly's husband Albert was a fishmonger. PG Wodehouse wrote to her over a 60-year period, mostly from Long Island and New York where he lived. On her death, Lillian described Wodehouse as her greatest friend. These letters give great insight into Plum’s life.
