Auntie Pat's School for Dancing

For opening times see Visit Us

This nostalgic exhibition contains a selection of pictures of the young pupils who attended Mrs Pat Barnwell’s dancing school and took part in the amazing and wide ranging shows that she put on for more than 30 years from the 1950s onwards – often accompanied by Jimmy Greer’s local band.
In addition, photographs from Mrs Barnwell’s own personal photograph album will be on display and pictures of musical, dance events put on by adults under her tuition. Newspaper cuttings, posters and leaflets as well as personal memories, medals and memorabilia make this an attractive exhibition to end the year.
If you took part in any of Mrs Barnwell’s shows (or know someone who did) please visit this exhibition to see if you recognise the dancers and can provide us with their names and the shows they are taking part in so that we can add more information to the photographic archive about the dancing school held in Emsworth Museum. Those in the tall cabinet were courtesy of Mary Brown formerly Mary Daines. Her brother is in the pictures. Barry Hancock and June Ephringham bought in more pictures displayed in the large cabinets. June’s Mum used to play the piano for the classes. More pictures came from Cynthia Field. Cynthia became a Tiller girl and gave shows in the Nutbourne area.

Admission to all exhibitions is free.   Stairlift available.
